  1. Electroplating is the deposition of metals 
  2. upon metallic surfaces by electrolysis for 
  3. decorative and/or protective purposes. It is 
  4. used in the preparation of printers' blocks, 
  5. `master' audio discs, and in many other 
  6. processes. A current is passed through a bath 
  7. containing a solution of a salt of the 
  8. plating metal, the object to be plated being 
  9. the cathode (negative terminal). The anode 
  10. (positive terminal) is either an inert 
  11. substance or the plating metal. Among the 
  12. metals most commonly used for plating are 
  13. zinc, nickel, chromium, cadmium, copper, 
  14. silver, and gold.
